EMAIL UPDATE -- WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 25 -- WHEELER MIDDLE SCHOOL

Happy Monday everyone!  Here's some info about what's going on at Wheeler Middle School:

Parents:  Please make sure your child's student dues have been paid.  Not sure if you are up to date?  You can call the office (305-9000) or ask your student to check in the office before school or during recess/lunch.  Student dues are only $15 for the whole year; if your child started school after the beginning of the school year, this amount is pro-rated.

WEDNESDAY, SEP 27:  This is an EVEN day; students go to their even-numbered periods, plus Homeroom and Advisory.

SATURDAY, SEP 30:  Please come support our volleyball student-athletes, coaches, and cheerleaders!  Games begin at 8:00 a.m. and will be held at Radford High School.

FRIDAY, OCT 6:  I realize this is a couple of weeks away, but wanted to give you a heads up about our upcoming Spartan Fair.  Students look forward to this event each year!  Activities will begin after lunch and will include food/snack booths, a country store, and games!  Students will be able to purchase scrips to use as payment during the fair (cash will not be accepted at the fair).  Scrip sales will begin October 3.  Scrips are 50 cents each; no refunds will be issued on unused scrips.  Here are some ideas of what to expect:  ice cream floats (5 scrips), nachos/juice combo (10 scrips); soft drinks (2-3 scrips); pizza (6-7 scrips); shave ice (3 scrips); chili dogs (6 scrips); candy/fruit bars (1-4 scrips); variety of games (2-10 scrips).

MONDAY, OCT 9 - MONDAY, OCT 16Fall Break -- No school!

PTSO (Parent, Teacher, Student Organization) NEWS:

BOX TOPS:  We will have our first drawing this Friday, September 29th!  Students (and staff too!) can tape ten Box Tops to a raffle entry form and drop it in the bucket in the front office. Winner will have his/her choice of a $25 gift card to one of these:  Game Stop, iTunes, Amazon, Exchange.  Entry forms are available in the office.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS:  if anyone is available to help the PTSO during Spartan Fair/Fall Fest event, please contact PTSO.  We are looking for a few people to help with the PTSO booth during the event.  Because the fair is being held during school hours, we are only able to accept adult volunteers.  Please email ptso.wheeler.middle.hi@gmail.com if you'd like to help!

TUESDAY, OCT 17PTSO meeting at 3:00 pm in the IRC (Library).

FRIDAY, OCT 27:  PTSO, along with Band, is hosting a Halloween dance/haunted house.  We are looking for adult volunteers to be on the Halloween Dance Committee.  If anyone is interested in serving on the committee, please contact PTSO.

SATURDAY, NOV 11:  PTSO will host its 5th annual holiday bazaar, from 9:00 - 1:00 in our cafeteria.  Vendors may rent 8' of cafeteria table space or a 10' x 10' space outside for $30.  Flyer and vendor application are attached for your information.

PTSO sells Outshine fruit bars ($1) after school -- a great snack, especially during these hot summer months!  We are set up behind the administration building, by the service elevator.

PTSO has school t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts available for sale.  T-shirts sell for $10; sweatshirts are $25 (cash or check, please).  I have samples in my office (located in the main school office) if you'd like to see sizes!  While students are not required to wear these at school, they're nice to have for school spirit days!

EMAIL UPDATE -- WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 11 -- WHEELER MIDDLE SCHOOL

Happy Monday, everyone!

I was reminded by one of our teachers (thanks, Mr. Telles!) about a free online tutoring website that is offered to military families.  I've provided this information in the past, but for our new families who may not be familiar with it, here's the link:  http://military.tutor.com/home.  Tutor.com is a program that allows eligible students (grades K-12) and service members in US military families to connect to a live tutor online at any time for one-on-one help with homework, studying, test prep, proofreading, and more, at no cost.

Congratulations to three students who won $25 gift cards for turning in their Federal Surveys by last Friday!  Thank you to all of you who have filled out and returned your Federal Survey form!  The raffle is over, but I still need students to bring back their surveys.  I am striving for a 100% turn-in; please help me meet that goal!  Surveys can be turned in at the office or given to Homeroom teachers.

TUESDAY, SEP 12:  PTSO meeting at 3:00.

WEDNESDAY, SEP 13:  This is an EVEN day; students go to their even-numbered periods, plus Homeroom and Advisory.

FRIDAY, SEP 15:  PTSO will host its first Art and Appetizers Night (similar to a "Paint and Sip," without the "sip") for this school year!  It's not too late to sign up! I've attached a flyer that provides more information, along with the registration form.

SATURDAY, SEP 16:   Volleyball games begin at 9:30, at Moanalua High School. Please come support our student-athletes, cheerleaders, and coaches!

THURSDAY, SEP 21 AND FRIDAY, SEP 22:  School picture days!   Students will be scheduled to have pictures taken through their English classes. They should have already received an order form, so parents may choose backgrounds and select packages.  Students are asked to bring their order form, along with payment, on their designated picture day.

Winner will have his/her choice of a $25 gift card to one of these:  Game Stop, iTunes, Amazon, Exchange.  Entry forms are available in the office.

Hope you all have a great week!

ADD-ON TO THIS WEEK'S EMAIL UPDATE

Just a quick add-on to my weekly email!   I was just told that this coming Monday, September 11th, will be a 'Spirit Day,' instead of our usual Wednesday Spirit Days!   We'd like to honor the day (9/11) by asking our students and staff to wear red, white, and blue (or at least have one of those colors as the dominant color)!  Students can earn spirit points for their homeroom by being a part of this spirit day!

Thanks,

Mary

Fwd: EMAIL UPDATE -- WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 4 -- WHEELER MIDDLE SCHOOL

** without attachments **

Hope everyone had a nice long weekend!  Here's some news from Wheeler Middle School (some may be repetitive, but there's always new information too!).

WEDNESDAY, SEP 6:  This is an ODD day; students go to their odd-numbered periods, plus Homeroom and Advisory.

WEDNESDAY, SEP 6:  Federal Survey forms will be sent home with your children.   This survey allows the State of Hawaii to qualify for a partial reimbursement for federally connected children. This funding supports all public schools.   Even if you are not federally connected, the Department of Education has asked that ALL families fill out a Federal Survey for EACH child enrolled in our school. Please be sure to fill in ALL of the blanks; incomplete forms will be returned to parents and this delays our submission dates.  Additionally, please SIGN and DATE your form and return it by Friday, September 9.   I've attached a letter from the Garrison Commander with more information.

**  Students who bring in their completed forms by Friday, September 8, will be eligible to be included in a raffle to win a $25 gift card (iTunes, Game Stop, PX, or Amazon--their choice).   We will draw three names from all of the students who turn in their Federal Surveys by Friday!

SATURDAY, SEP 9:   Volleyball games begin at 9:30, at Waialua High School.  6th and 7th-grade girls and 8th-grade boys will play first; 8th-grade girls will play on the first available court after the first games.  Please come support our student-athletes, cheerleaders, and coaches!  I've also attached an UPDATED games schedule.  Some times have changed.

SATURDAY, SEP 9:  PTSO will be having its first Community Yard Sale, right here in our school parking lot!  Reserve two parking lot spaces for only $10!  We will advertise the sale and there will be several families selling their goods -- one stop shopping!  You keep all of the profits from your sales!  Please see attached flyer for more information and to register for a spot!

TUESDAY, SEP 12:  PTSO meeting at 3:00.

FRIDAY, SEP 15:  PTSO will host its first Art and Appetizers Night (similar to a "Paint and Sip," without the "sip") for this school year!  This event has always been a huge success; please be sure to sign up early to reserve your spot!   I've attached a flyer that provides more information, along with the registration form.

THURSDAY, SEP 21 AND FRIDAY, SEP 22:  School picture days!   Students will be scheduled to have pictures taken through their English classes. They will receive an order form ahead of time, so parents may choose backgrounds and select packages.  Students are asked to bring their order form, along with payment, on their designated picture day (English teachers will distribute these forms and let students know which day they will be getting their pictures taken).

TRIPOD STUDENT PERCEPTION SURVEY:   Last week, a letter with information about an upcoming survey was sent home.  This survey (Tripod Student Perception Survey) is a confidential and voluntary survey that will be completed by students; it represents the students' view of the classroom and learning environment.  There is a form for parents to sign if they DO NOT want their children to participate in the survey.  A copy of this letter is attached for your information.

CENSUS VERIFICATION FORM:  Your child should have brought one of these forms home last week (may also be going home tomorrow).  Please be sure to verify that the information on the form is correct, sign it, and return it to school as soon as possible.  Once we receive and process those forms, parents will be able to access their child's Infinite Campus accounts on line (you will have to request access via our school's website).

SCHOOL BUS:  Beginning tomorrow (Wednesday, Sep 6), students must have their ID cards stamped to indicate that they've paid for the bus, or have coupons available to give the bus driver.  Not having appropriate documentation will result in students not being able to ride the bus!

PTSO (Parent, Teacher, Student Organization) NEWS:

If you are new to our school and would like to join our PTSO, it's not too late!  Cost is only $5 per family and benefits our students and staff throughout the school year! And if you'd like to volunteer, we are always in need of help to make all of our events a success!   PTSO is also looking for board members to fill positions that became vacant this summer!  For more information, please email ptso.wheeler.middle.hi@gmail.com.  Thank you to those who've already joined our group!

Saturday, November 11:  PTSO will host its 5th annual holiday bazaar, from 9:00 - 1:00 in our cafeteria.  Vendors may rent 8' of cafeteria table space or a 10' x 10' space outside for $30.  Please email ptso.wheeler.middle.hi@gmail.com for more information.

We are a Box Tops school!  Please encourage your child to cut out Box Tops and bring them to school!  For every ten Box Tops submitted, students (and staff members too) are entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card (choose from iTunes, Game Stop, Exchange, OR Amazon).  Submission forms are available in the main school office. Box Tops may be glued or taped to the form and dropped in a bucket on the counter in the office.  We'll have drawings in September, November, January, March, and May!

Hope everyone has a great week!
