LAST EMAIL UPDATE!! -- WEEK OF MAY 28 -- WHEELER MIDDLE SCHOOL

Aloha everyone!   Hard to believe this school year is already coming to a close!  Hope you all have a great summer!  If there's anything at all I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask!  I'm always on email and although I don't officially 'work' during the summer, I'm around and can always get info for you as needed!

Last week, our 7th graders organized a "Walk for Water" fundraising event, where their focus was to raise funds to help provide clean water to the residents of a small village in Kenya.  The amount raised through this event and several prior fundraisers was enough to provide ten families with enough clean water to last three years!  Way to go, Wheeler 7th graders!  Please take a look at the video created to showcase this event:  Walk for Water - 5:23.mp4

SUMMER NEWS:  There will be a GenCyber Camp at Leilehua High School this summer (July 9-13, 2018).  Targeted students are those in grades 8-10, so our current 7th and 8th graders are eligible to participate!  This camp is aimed at students who may have an interest in Cyber Security, but who have zero experience.  There are slots for 30 students, but it's open to all schools in our district; if your child is interested, please register as soon as possible.  This is FREE to attend, and lunch will be provided.  Please see attached flyer for registration information.

Totally unrelated to school, but thought I'd share this information I received:  The American Red Cross has a Dental Assistant Program that is open to all Active Duty Military Spouses (over the age of 18).  Training takes place at Schofield Barracks and begins in October 2018.  Applications are accepted in June and July.  Please see this link for more information and to apply:  http://www.redcross.org/news/article/local/hawaii/DENTAC-Hawaii-Volunteer-Dental-Assistant-Program.
Side note:  my daughter completed this program about ten years ago and it was free then (assuming it is still free; you only pay for the book)--it was a great way to start a career in the dental field!

Have a great week!  After today:  seven more days left!
