EMAIL UPDATE -- WEEK OF MAY 21 -- WHEELER MIDDLE SCHOOL

Happy Monday (this is my 'second to last' email to families for this school year!).....

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS:

Are you looking for a great summer experience for your kids?  Check out Leeward Community College's Summer Camp.  Kids 12-16 years old are invited to their campus to engage in hands-on activities in a fun and inclusive environment.  Please see attached flyer for more information.

Do you have a daughter who might be interested in STEM -- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math?  Check out the exciting opportunity being offered to girls who will be in 7th or 8th grade this next school year.  There will be an Excite Camp held from June 12 - 15.  Please see attached flyer for information on how to register for this FREE camp!

I've also included a couple of flyers with information about Schofield Barracks Youth Center Summer Camps.  There is also a FREE shuttle service for the teen center throughout the summer (see flyer).

Take advantage of our online meal payment program!  You can check your child's school meal account balance online, as well as make payments with a credit or debit card.  Please see attached letter, which details the program and provides information on how you can create an online account!

STUDENT DUES/END OF YEAR ACTIVITIES:  Please make sure your child's student dues have been paid; students whose dues have not been paid may not be eligible to participate in some year-end activities (e.g., 8th-grade banquet and graduation).  You may check with the office (305-9000) if you're not sure if dues were paid (these are usually paid at the time of registration -- $15 for the year; dues are pro-rated if a student came to Wheeler later in the school year).

YEARBOOKS
:  Yearbooks are
still available:
$35 (cash only, please).  Students can purchase a yearbook from Ms. Lee in Room D-6, during recess.

PTSO NEWS:

PTSO BOARD OPENINGS:  We have several board positions open for next school year; please see attached flyer for more information.  There are so many things our PTSO does for our school (and your students!); please consider volunteering some of your time so we can continue to do great things!

DONATION DRIVE (now through May 31):  Help PTSO raise money to continue to support our amazing staff and students!  Donate items you no longer want or need and we'll sell them!  Whatever doesn't sell will be donated to Savers Thrift Store, who will pay us by the pound for our donations!  No large items, furniture, car seats, mattresses, or weapons, please!  Please see this link:  https://fundrive.savers.com/e/wheelermiddleschoolptsodonationdrive  and attached flyer for more information!

Totally unrelated to school, but thought I'd share this information I received:  The American Red Cross has a Dental Assistant Program that is open to all Active Duty Military Spouses (over the age of 18).  Training takes place at Schofield Barracks and begins in October 2018.  Applications are accepted in June and July.  Please see this link for more information and to apply:  http://www.redcross.org/news/article/local/hawaii/DENTAC-Hawaii-Volunteer-Dental-Assistant-Program.
Side note:  my daughter completed this program about ten years ago and it was free then (assuming it is still free; you only pay for the book)--it was a great way to start a career in the dental field!

Have a great week!  After today:  seven more days left!
