Yearbook Sales Reminder

This is just a reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday, February 28) is the last day to pre-order a yearbook for the low price of $30 (cash only)!   After tomorrow, the price will increase to $35.  

Last day to pre-order a yearbook will be Friday, March 16 (the last day before Spring Break).  

If you will be moving and would like your yearbook mailed to you, please be sure to leave a pre-paid self-addressed Priority Mail envelope in the office!

EMAIL UPDATE -- WEEK OF FEBRUARY 26 -- WHEELER MIDDLE SCHOOL

TODAY, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26:  Book Fair is open early!   It was originally scheduled to begin on Wednesday, but it is set up and open for business in Room P-7!   Hours of operation:  7:15 - 3:00 (except Wednesdays, when it will close at 2:00).  We could still use some volunteers if you find yourself with some free time!   Please contact Tami Kreft at 305-9000 or email tami.kreft@wheelermiddle.k12.hi.us if you'd like more information.  You may also go to http://www.scholastic.com/bf/wheelermiddleschool1 if you'd like to sign up to volunteer or do some online shopping!  Online shopping is open until March 8.  Please see attached flyer for more information.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27
 Box Tops drawing!   Please continue to send in Box Tops -- anyone can drop their entries in the bucket in the front office (students and staff too!), for a chance to win a $25 gift card to the PX, Game Stop, iTunes, or Amazon!  You just need to tape or glue ten Box Tops to each entry form (please make sure they are not expired!).  

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28:  This is an EVEN day; students go to their even-numbered periods, plus Homeroom and Advisory.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28 Spirit Day:  Tie-Dye Day!

THURSDAY, MARCH 1:  Domino's Pizza Night!   Please consider placing an order from the Schofield Domino's (622-3030); our school receives 10% profit from all sales on this day!  If you live on Wheeler, you will need to order carry-out (the Schofield Domino's does not deliver to Wheeler).  Thank you to everyone who supports this fundraiser!  We strive to NOT do a lot of other kinds of fundraising, as we know parents are already bombarded enough!  This Domino's fundraising opportunity provides our PTSO with much-needed funds to sponsor a multitude of programs that support our students and staff! 

SATURDAY, MARCH 3:  First soccer game of the season!   Games will be held at Leilehua High School:  girls play at 12:00 and boys' game begins at 1:00.  Please come support our players, cheerleaders, and coaches as they play against Moanalua Middle School!  Please see attached corrected games schedule.

SATURDAY, MARCH 3Central District Band Festival, beginning at 7:00 pm, at the Leilehua High School gym.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7:  Last day of Book Fair.

THURSDAY, MARCH 8 or FRIDAY, MARCH 98th graders will be going to Pearl Harbor; buses will be leaving at 8:30, so please make sure your students are here on time!

SATURDAY, MARCH 10:  Soccer games at Moanalua High School!  Girls play at 10:00 and boys play at 11:00; come support our student-athletes, cheerleaders, and coaches as they take on Mililani Middle School!

TUESDAY, MARCH 13PTSO meeting at 3:00 in the IRC (Library).

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 148th-grade clean card trip to Kapolei Theater to see "A Wrinkle in Time."  Buses will be leaving at 8:30.  Permission slips have been sent out (or will be soon); please sign and return!

THURSDAY, MARCH 15: 6th-grade clean card trip to the Makapu'u Lighthouse.  Buses leave at 8:30 (be on the lookout for permission slips that need to be signed and returned).

THURSDAY, MARCH 15: 7th-grade clean card trip to Sea Life Park.  Buses leave at 8:30 (permission slips will need to be signed and returned).

MONDAY, MARCH 19 - MONDAY, MARCH 26 Spring Break (the 26th is actually Kuhio Day and school is not in session).

Summer School classes for incoming 9th graders.  This is a great opportunity for students to get a head start on earning high school credits!  9th graders may register for Physical Education (9 & 10), Health, or World History.   PE and Health are half-credit classes, and World History is a full credit class.  If you noted (on the registration card you completed earlier this year) that your child would be enrolling in Summer School, you may take advantage of Priority Registration, which will be held on April 3, 4, or 5.  Otherwise, Open Registration will be held on April 10, 11, and 12.  Completed online application and full payment are required at time of registration.  The online application will be available on March 19.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.

     ** 8th Grade Promotion Pictures will be taken on Tuesday, April 3, through your child's ELA class.  Your child will be given a proof sheet sometime in April and parents may order pictures at that time.  These pictures will be used on promotion certificates to be given out at our Promotion Ceremony. 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  If you'd like to spend 30 minutes with a group of noisy kids, let me know! ;)   We have a game room that is open during lunch; if you'd like to spend some time watching the kids, send me an email and I'll give you more information!  Great way to spend some time at school and rack up some volunteer hours!

BUS PASSES Beginning TODAY, Wheeler Middle School Staff will not be issuing discretionary bus passes to students after school.  If your child does not have his/her school ID card, he/she will not be allowed to ride the bus home.  Your child will be given the option to call home for their ID card or a ride, or they may purchase a new ID card for $1.00.  Wheeler Middle School is aware that many of the students have paid for the privilege to ride the bus.  However, proper bus rules and policies still need to be followed to ensure the safety of each student.


CASH ONLY PAYMENTS:  Because we're getting close to the end of the school year, checks will only be accepted through Thursday, March 29.  Beginning April 2, all payments for bus and lunch payments, field trips, student fees, and any other student obligations, need to be paid in CASH only.  We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation!

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21:  This is an ODD day; students go to their odd-numbered periods, plus Homeroom and Advisory.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23:  Central District Parade of Bands at Mililani High School, at 4:30 pm.

EMAIL UPDATE -- WEEK OF FEBRUARY 12 -- WHEELER MIDDLE SCHOOL

   ***** BOY'S SOCCER TRYOUTS THAT WERE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY AND THURSDAY HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FEBRUARY 20 AND 22.****

Basketball season ended last Saturday!  A huge THANK YOU to all of the basketball players and cheerleaders for their participation!  They demonstrated great sportsmanship, school pride, and skill.  A special congratulations to our 6th/7th grade boys' team for being undefeated this season!  And finally, a BIG shout out to the basketball and cheerleading coaches for spending their valuable time (especially on the weekends) with our student-athletes! 

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13: Packets for girls soccer are available today, during recess and lunch, in Room E1. (This was announced to students today via the Daily Bulletin). Tryouts will begin on Tuesday, February 20. There will be two tryout dates:  February 20 and February 22.  Girls must be present for BOTH dates.  Grade checks must be completed before girls can try out.  Please return completed packets to Room E1. Students will not be able to try out unless they have turned in completed packets. 

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13:  PTSO Meeting at 3:00 pm in the IRC (Library).

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14: This is an EVEN day; students go to their even-numbered periods, plus Homeroom and Advisory.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14:  Spirit Day!  Students wear red, white, or pink, and earn spirit points for their homeroom!  There will also be a Valentine's Day sale in Room B-1, from 7:15 am until the beginning of Homeroom and during lunch.  Prices range from $1.50 to $2.50 (cash only) for balloons or carnations.

  

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 148th-grade class pictures will be taken during Advisory.  Please remind your students that hats are not allowed for this class picture.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5:  Packets for boys soccer are available today, during recess and lunch, in the counseling room. (This was announced to students today via the Daily Bulletin).   Tryouts will begin on Tuesday, February 13.  There will be two tryout dates:  February 13 and February 15.  Boys must be present for BOTH dates.  Grade checks must be completed before boys can try out.  Please return completed packets to the counseling office.  Students will not be able to try out unless they have turned in completed packets.  Information about girls soccer is coming soon!
